BOD Expectations

We are proud to be one of the few organizations in the area to have members with Asperger’s serving as active board directors. We also have some very dedicated people from the community serving on our Advisory Board. It is our objective to form a special panel of people on the Spectrum to provide expertise and guidance to Asperger Works in all aspects of its work. The panel will include some of the most recognized and influential names in the local autism community as well as Asperger Works clients.

Asperger Works is seeking applicants to fill available positions on Asperger Works’ Board of Directors. Qualified applicants should be creative, understand complexity, be open to new and challenging concepts, view change as necessary and positive, and have the ability and time to serve Asperger Works. Additionally, Asperger Works desires individuals who reflect diversity including, but not limited to race, age, gender, sexual orientation, geography, economic status, disability, and ethnicity.

Asperger Works’ Board of Directors:

Governance Skills and Abilities

Ability in providing strategic direction, monitoring organizational effectiveness, overseeing financial and budgetary issues, and determining critical programmatic policies and directions.

Capacity & Propensity to Give

Ability and willingness to contribute financially (in the form of personal contributions and/or in donations from outside sources) and/or to provide personal contacts and influence to help the Organization achieve its mission and goals.

Dedication to Asperger Works’ Goals

Demonstrate genuine interest and/or experience in the field of Autism – especially Asperger’s – and the vision, mission, goals, values, and beliefs of Asperger Works. Asperger Works is committed to diversity and inclusion in all our policies, plans, programs, services, relationships, and operations.

Teamwork Skills

Work in partnership with staff with varying viewpoints and backgrounds to reach consensus on complex problems and issues.

Represent Asperger Works to the Public.

Act as a representative to Asperger Works’ membership, volunteers, public, press, the philanthropic community, and other groups in articulating Asperger Works’ mission, goals, and activities.

Representative duties of Board Members

Asperger Works’ Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the finances and activities of the organization.

The Board determines, demands, and assures appropriate organizational performance. This includes fulfilling the mission of the organization, determining its future direction, and assuring the organization’s fiscal health. A Board Member is expected to attend all Board Meetings and to participate in committees and other activities as needed.

Some of the major responsibilities of an Asperger Works Board Member are to:

  • Ensure appropriate linkage between the work of the organization’s programs and the mission and goals of Asperger Works to its constituents;
  • Ensure that the highest ethical and professional standards are being applied in the handling and use of funds raised for programmatic activities;
  • Provide philanthropic support through personal giving and draw on sphere of influence to benefit Asperger Works;
  • Ensure appropriate controls are in place in compliance with all laws governing 501(c)(3) organizations;
  • Approve budget and monitor finances;
  • Act as representative in articulating Asperger Works’ mission and goals;
  • Evaluate the Asperger Works President’s and Executive Director’s performance (keeping in mind that he/she may be on the Spectrum needing special allowances and aid).
