by Laurie Lears
This is a fictional story about a child with autism and a walk with his sisters (who are frustrated with his stereotypical autistic behavior). Since Ian is anxious to join his sisters in a walk, their mother tells the girls that they must take him with them. It is only after he wanders off during their walk that they begin to understand him. Ian’s Walk is regarded as a useful tool to help family members of children with autism understand associated behaviors.
